Private Commissions
Commissioning art is a satisfying and unique way to create something personal, either for your own collection or as a thoughtful, special gift. It is a lot easier than you might think.
commissions: Welcome
I love collaborating with people - it is a lot of fun and it really inspires my creative process, especially as a private commission tends to be incredibly thoughtful. It is a joy to bring your ideas to life and know that I’m creating a lasting legacy.
Clients have commented how satisfying and enjoyable it was to work with me and see the vision they had in mind come to life on a page. I'm good at qualifying what you really want, and why.
“We commissioned Katy to paint a special piece for my son’s first birthday. The whole process was incredibly easy and enjoyable, and Katy understood exactly what we were looking for. The painting itself is beautiful and looks perfect in O’s room. We love it so much that we’ve already commissioned a second piece!”
~Rebecca, Edinburgh.
What is the process?
Thanks to the professional skills I gained from a successful 20yr career in digital marketing, I’ve developed a documented process to walk you through your commission:
I will send you a Briefing form to capture your ideas and specifications, alongside a Booking form with T&Cs, plus an outline of my delivery timescales. Next, I will send an initial rough Sketch, aiming to capture your vision in an outline composition.
This is all sent in advance of asking for any financial commitment.
How much will it cost?
Prices start at £195 for a single-subject A4 watercolour painting, then increase based on size and complexity. I work out how long it will take and quote accordingly.
My process allows for up to 2 revisions to the initial sketch, otherwise the timescales and the quote will increase.
Once you’re happy with the sketch composition, I ask for 50% deposit before I start on the final artwork, then the final 50% (plus postage) once it’s delivered and you confirm you’re happy.
How long will it take?
For a single-subject A4 piece, the process can be as short as 2 weeks start-to-finish, from when I take your brief (over the phone or via email), to posting your artwork. Larger or more complex pieces take longer.
"I'm so happy with the commissioned painting I have. Katy is such a lovely person to work with. Thank you for creating a truly special work of art."
~ Mandie, Surrey
What is the next step?
Contact me with a sentence or two about what you’re looking for, plus any deadlines (birthdays etc), and I’ll reply asap with my availability and next steps. I will also send across the Briefing and Booking docs for your review.
At any given time, I’m usually juggling a few other projects. I also tend to be very busy from mid-November and I am time-limited during school holidays. It's worth bearing that in mind if you are looking for a quick turnaround, but just ask!
